A Window Into My World |
A collection of my thoughts, inspirations, aspirations and creations. |
Saw these guys busking in Cheltenham a few weeks ago, so so good, really worth checkin them out, especially if you’re into Mumford and Sons!!
I treated myself to a Canon 600D a few weeks ago, and have really enjoyed playing with it! My inspiration for my next project at uni is nature and the outdoors, and comparing natural and man made objects and textures. I saw these trees and couldn’t walk past without capturing their formation!
So I was listening to the radio the other evening, and heard a discussion about page 3 models. Apparently a group of people - including a large number of girl guides - have signed a petition to get ‘page 3’ removed from the Sun. They claim it is going to far into the sexualisation of children and women, and is distasteful. I can kind of see where they are coming from, but at the same time if it offends you to see these pretty much naked girls, don’t read the Sun, or even just skip from page 2 to page 4!
These girls are not being exploited - to our knowledge - they have chosen to pose in the ways that they do, and are gaining money and publicity from it. Even though I can safely say I will never be appearing on page 3 with my boobs out, why shouldn’t they?
Another thing in the news this week that has really pissed me off is the reaction of some people to Margaret Thatcher’s death. I do not know enough about the way she worked whilst Prime Minister, and the changes she made to the country - both good and bad - to judge. But I do know that a lot of the people that have been causing these riots and disruptions are not far off my age. I was definitely not alive when Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister, and neither were they! It’s just an excuse to act like idiots. Grow up and have a little respect for her family!
I have been thinking over the last few weeks that I’d like to do something to raise some money for Macmillan nurses. My Grandad passed away just before Christmas, and had been ill with cancer for a little while before. In the weeks before he died, him and my family made the decision to look after him at home, so he wouldn’t have to stay In hospital or go into a hospice. The Macmillan nurses enabled this to happen by helping my nanny, dad, aunts and uncle to care for him.
So this week I have made the pretty crazy decision to run the half marathon in Stroud this October! I want to challenge myself and raise money to enable others that are suffering with cancer to spend time in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, and with the help of the Macmillan nurses this is possible!
I am already thinking this is a massive challenge and am hoping that I will be able to complete it, but it’s such a worthy cause and is important to me.
Its amazing how the tiniest, most seemingly insignificant things can instantly lift your mood. Driving home in the sunshine, sunglasses on, window down (unfortunately coat and scarf still on!) and oasis blasting out on the radio just gave me such a lift. I’ve been struggling recently to find a balance between working hard at uni and actually enjoying what I’m doing. It’s so easy to get bogged down with work and deadlines that you begin to question why you are actually doing what you are, and wether or not it’s what you really want to be doing. I have discovered that if I’m not enjoying working on something, it’s time to move on to something new. Today i scrapped a few uninspiring ideas an have been led by colourful circles and swear words!!
This evening I have gotten a little hole punch happy!! I’d like to throw these around the room!
Busy week ahead finishing my Paperclip project, lots to do!!
Last post for today, a snippet of my work for our Walcot Project at uni, theme of gradation and inspired by the beautiful buildings of Bath
I’ve just stumbled upon this beautiful knitted crown on Etsy. Lovely idea to create a range of alternative dress up wear for children..
I paid a visit to Lexi Loves in Cirencester yesterday to source some ribbons for my paper clip project. I probably spent far too much money on ribbons I won’t be using any time soon, but couldn’t resist them!!
you are so cute
i’d pin you down
and fuck you
till you babbled
all your secrets.
your passions.
your darkest
filthiest...
